She was a mother of two boys, Abhishek (5 years) and Abhinesh (4 years), when Janaki became pregnant for the third time. It being an unexpected pregnancy, she wanted to go for an abortion.
One day, during an antenatal and prenatal meeting at the nearest Anganwadi centre in Kallikattu colony, she learned about the low Child Sex Ratio and the launch of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao by the Hon’ble Prime Minister. The Anganwadi worker informed her about certificates and saplings, as well as the Amma Baby Care Kit, being given by Cuddalore District Collector, as a mark of celebrating the birth of a girl child. She heard about the Sukanya Samridhi Scheme and various competitions held in this regard as well.
The result? Janaki changed her mind. Not only did she cancelled the plan to abort the precious life growing in her, she also started wishing and praying regularly for the gift of a girl child!
Her prayers were well-answered. Janaki is now the proud and happy mother of a healthy girl child.
